Goodbye Bluebird 1959, Hello...

Hi everyone!

Just a reminder, this Wednesday - October 31st - I will be saying goodbye to this blog.

I'm excited to launch my new vintage farmhouse blog, Far Ago Farm on the same day.  You will find plenty of old school charm with a (sometimes) modern twist - warm, welcoming and real.

I hope you will stop over and check it out. Follow me here!

I will have a cute giveaway to sign up for on Wednesday, too.

Hope to see y'all over at my new place!

A Little Bit of Fall

Hi everyone!

I thought I'd share a few fall pics from my kitchen. Baby Bluebird is home for the weekend with her fiance. Since she can't be home for Thanksgiving in November, I'll be cooking up her holiday favorites tomorrow for dinner!

Remember to join me here October 31st as I roll out my new blog look and your chance to enter a giveaway!

Chipping Away

Hi everyone,

Just like this cute chippy outside my kitchen today, I'm busy chipping away getting ready for fall and the re-launch of my blog. Remember, October 31st is the day!

Such chubby cheeks!

The dog is not amused, especially when he is on the outside looking in!

Time for Change

Hi everyone!

Do you remember when Bobby Brady's voice began to change and the Brady Bunch sang, "When It's Time to Change?" Well, that's how it seems here at Bluebird 1959 these days.  My blog voice is changing. 😁😁

I've been retooling my blog  behind the scenes all year and will be rolling out all of the exciting changes on October 31st! There will be lots of  color, vintage and well loved decor all served up in a welcoming, 'old school decor blog'  style. I think many of us miss the days when blogs were authentic, humble, kind and house shaming & snobbery was rare to non existent. Sigh...

My plan is to bring that back (at least in my blog) and who knows? Maybe it will spark a revival of bloggers who aren't pros, but love to decorate their homes and want to share that passion with others.

I hope you will stop by on October 31st to check it out and to enter for a chance to win a giveaway. I also hope you will continue to stop by afterward, sharing your comments and ideas with me and other readers. I am hoping to post three days a week:  Sundays & Fridays.

I'll be posting little updates and teasers during the next few weeks before the changes are rolled out in October 31st!

Jane

The Door Prize

Hi everyone!

Mr. Bluebird and I headed out last month to my favorite flea market, Elkhorn, and found this wonderful old door. It was just $20 and only needed a little Furniture Restorer to bring out the gorgeous wood. We definitely got the door prize! 😬

I originally had planned to hang it in a very hard to decorate space in our stairway.  After some discussion with Mr. Bluebird, we decided on a different location - but still in the stair area. It wasn't my original vision, but I think it was the best choice!

It is  a smaller size door, possibly from an old dumb waiter or an under the eaves closet.

It even has the old hardware attached! If you look closely, the knob has the Star of David on it.  Very intriguing! I wonder if it came from a synagogue?

I'm so behind in sharing all that has been happening here at the Bluebird house. I hope to get myself together and start posting more frequently. In the meantime, you can catch a glimpse of our gorgeous new carpeting on our steps.

Hope to be back soon!

Jane

Baby Bluebird's Engagement Party & Shower

Hi everyone!

After spending last week on vacation in Canada, for some reason I thought it would be a great idea to throw an engagement party & shower for Baby Bluebird less than 36 hours after our return home. Yikes! Seemed like a great idea in May...

I made all of the food except the cupcakes. Even though it was a whirlwind of prep, we had beautiful weather and the party was a blessing for our family and friends.

Three cute flower girls!

Baby Bluebird and her love had a great time and were surrounded by family, friends and lots of love! Now I am busy putting things away and restoring the house to normal.

Thanks for stopping by,
Jane

Front Yard Re-do Progress

Hi everyone!

I'm so excited to have the next phase of our front yard to-do starting. I shared our shutter replacement and plans here.

Last Wednesday, our contractor started our front patio demo and replacement. We have been on vacation in Canada all week, but our neighbor and  our contractor both sent pics.

It is still hard to envision what the end result will be, but I think it will be beautiful! The concrete porch stoop is being clad in red brick - I'm busting my buttons the most for that! I've always wanted brick steps.

We are also replacing our concrete drive and a small patio off the side garage. Vacation is over and I am writing this in the car as we head home.

Sunday is Baby Bluebird's shower and engagement party, so relaxation time is over and party prep is kicking in!

What are you all up to this week?

Farmhouse Kitchen Corner

Hi everyone!

I spent the hot and sultry weekend painting my kitchen. In all my years of having a kitchen, never have I had a white kitchen. Ever. I have had more color on my kitchen walls than Joseph's Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, lol!

Something pushed me toward white this time and I think I am digging it!

This is a little corner in our eat in area. Mr. Bluebird made me the wainscot plate rack last fall - and there is one on the opposite wall as well. Love it for displaying an ever changing array of plates.

I'll show you the rest of the kitchen soon. Pinky swear!

Painting Again

Hi everyone!

Just a quick pop in to say "hey" and fill you in on what I'm doing between planting flowers and shower prep.

There's nothing like planning a party to give me a kick in the pants to freshen up my decor. Mr. Bluebird and I painted our living area and front entry in April, which has left the kitchen looking sad and neglected. I've come to the conclusion I burn way too many candles - there is an awful lot of soot on my walls. I think I may be giving them up. Boo hoo.

Anyway, painting is easy - but yikes! I just hate the preparation! I'm an instant gratification kind of girl.  Nonetheless, I've patched and primed and took down my over abundance of stuff.  I'm ready to put brush to the wall and get it done!

Such a mess! But I know it will be worth it in the end. A freshly painted room is always a beautiful sight.

Lavender Everywhere!

Hi everyone!

I am finally off for the summer, so hopefully blogging will become a reality for me again. It's been hard to find the time lately.

These first weeks are going to be busy ones. We are a hosting an outdoor engagement party and shower at our home for Baby Bluebird and her fiance in early July. I've been buying every lavender and purple annual I can get my hands on, since lavender is her wedding color. I've been  planting like crazy!

Can't miss an opportunity to share a picture of Palmer. He's so cute!

So much planting!

Had to add a bit of my favorite yellow. I think it looks good with all the purplr purples.

I'm also in craft mode for this party! These are just the tip of the supply iceberg!

As you can see, I'm over my head in party prep. We also have several big renos planned around here for the summer.  Hope to share a home decor post soon.

Jane
