Simple Summer Pleasure

Hi Everyone!

Don't you just love crawling into bed after you have put on fresh, clean linens? It is something soothing to the soul as far as I'm concerned!  I love the old fashioned notion of it, too.  I have happy memories of helping my mom put up and take down many a load of wash from our clothesline as a kid. (Although I am pretty sure I complained about it back in the day - "why can't we just put the clothes in the dryer, mom?!")

We have been in our current home for thirteen years and have never had a clothesline.  We had a fabulous one at our old house, but nothing here.  Occasionally I would  MaGyver something together with lawn furniture and tables, etc. to dry a blanket, quilt, or comforter, but it was not the same as an honest to goodness clothesline. I have been secretly lusting after one for years.  Now, I am not talking about giving up my dryer - not happening! - just a little line to hang linens, quilts, towels, and such.

One magical day in June (out of the blue), Mr. Bluebird decided we needed a clothesline and he hooked me up with one between a tree and our pavilion.  Today was it's maiden voyage and our sheets are a-blowin' in the summer breeze! I added a healthy scoop of fragrance crystals (right now I have Gain Fireworks, but there are other brands - this was just what I picked up on sale) to my wash water for some extra "oomph!"  Have you tried scent crystals?  I am a scent-a-holic and when these came out I was all in!  They really make your clothes and linens smell awesome-sauce - they really do!  Have you tried them?

So today I share with you my little scrapbook of laundry line love - truly a simple summer pleasure!

Do you have any simple summer pleasures to share?

Thanks for stopping by,

Jane

  1. Nothing is quite as nice as sleeping between sun dried sheets. I'm happy for you and your new clothesline. We just moved this spring and I haven't decided on a good place for a clothesline, yet, but I know that there is one right around the corner. I have such a big list of "To Do's". LOL
My husband and I are getting up in years, I'll be 69 in September, but one simple pleasure that I still enjoy is getting into a water hose fight with either my husband or our granddaughters. It is always a shock when the first water hits you, but after the shock . . . it is all giggles and fun :)
    Keep Smiling.
    Your blogging sister, Connie :)
P.S. your lawn and flowers are beautiful :)

  2. I took down my clothes line about 20 years ago and I have been sorry ever since. When my dryer broke and I was waiting for one to be delivered I had clothes hanging allover the yard and patio LOL But on my, they sure smelled heavenly. You are right about sheets and towels smelling so good. I was thinking of one that you put into a hole in the ground and it's all connected around and around. When your no using it pull it up and you would never know that you have one. I will have to check into that.
How nice that your honey thought of that and did that for you -how special.

    1. I do love the laundry on the line smell - no duplicating it for sure! Mine is just a rope tied to an eye hook and a tree, so we can keep it concealed most of the time.

  5. Wow! I had forgotten all about those days of hanging the laundry outside! I can picture the old clothesline and the basket I would carry out to get the sheets and towels. So funny, there are so many allergies in my family now, I couldn't do that if I wanted to! ;) It does bring back nice memories of home though!

    1. So many of memories of laundry on the line. Although I love the convenience of my dryer, it sure has been fun being able to hang a few things "on the line."

  6. Hi Jane,
I sure do remember hanging clothes and sheets on the line. I would help my grandma hang she would let me hold the clothes pins, I was always to short to each to line LOL
My mom had a dryer so grandma would call us Modern...Aw yes those were the days.

  7. I've always used a dryer, but I do have a drying rack that I use out on my back deck from time to time. Sometimes things can't go in the dryer. In fact, I'm using it right now. I agree, it feels great to get in a bed with fresh sheets on it. I haven't tried that new product yet. I'll have to check it out!

  8. Enjoyed this post so much, and absolutely relate, in the summer most of my laundry is hung out to dry. When I put fresh air dried sheets on mybed, I sniff and sniff, one night my dh asked "what are you doing", to which I replied, "just smelling sun kissed sheets." Congratulations on your special surprise, enjoy!

  11. My husband thinks I'm crazy, but I've been wanting a clothesline, too! I used to help my mother hang sheets and towels, and I still remember the special pouch she had for clothespins. Funny what you remember. You've inspired me to look into doing the same!
