Hi Everyone!
Way back in October of last year, Mr. Bluebird raised the curtain rod on our kitchen patio door. I also had him remove the gold vertical blinds (yuck!) at the same time. The blinds were our attempt to block out the lightning during summer storms. We had hoped this would help our dog with his storm anxiety, but it was not to be. After eight years, we threw in the towel and happily took down the verticals. Just doing that brought in so much more light into our north facing kitchen.
The Pottery Barn curtain panels also look so much better raised up about 4 inches. Of course, like any home improvement project - even the itty bitty ones, like this, there is a price to pay. Our "bill" was an unsightly patch of white left behind because our lazy painter (yep, me!) did not remove the rod the last time I painted the room. And of course, I no longer have the paint - nor do I know the color. Ugh!!! Will I ever learn?
Anyway.....this is what the middle area above our patio door has looked like since October! I apologize to all of the guests who have come and gone during this time period. It looks pretty shabby. But, you know, you kind of get used to it and it just becomes part of the background.
Fast forward to yesterday. When I left the house to go grocery shopping, the ugly white patch was still there. On my way home from the store, I have to pass by this cute little shop. This shop is huge and has two floors of unique home decor and antiques. One of my favorites! Like many other shopping days, I found myself pulling up to Finders Keepers to see what was new.
I was on the hunt for a small accent lamp, but ended up buying this "Fresh Eggs" sign. I knew it would be perfect for the space between the patio curtain rod and the patio door. (It would also cover up the ugly white patch!)
I really like it and it is a great addition to the farmhouse decor - big and bold, yet simple.
The "eggs" sign really compliments the little rooster table vignette I have going on.
A glimpse from the other side of the room. I think the graphics go well with my auction bill to the left. You can read about that here.
I didn't find the little lamp I was looking for, but I definitely scored a gem yesterday. The sign was made by local artist, Dan DiPaolo. He has designed many things for Lang over the years and is one talented fellow. You can read more about him on his website Dan DiPaolo Studios. I like that this particular sign is not mass produced, it is all handmade and even signed by the artist.
On a completely unrelated topic, today I am cleaning our home office - it has really exploded into a disaster area. I will be very glad when peace is restored to this room for many reasons. One, we use it all of the time and two, it is one of the first rooms guests see when they come to the front door. So, a-cleaning I will go!
Thanks for stopping by,
Jane

Looking good I also have things to cover bits of wall that are just not right.
ReplyDeleteMy daughters dog Angus also is afraid of storms she has a special jacket he wears when we have a bad storm.
Merle.............
Works great covering that space! Looked like a neat shop where you purchased it.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!
You did a great cover up job! Love the sign. Janice
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your new sign and it looks great and a beautiful way to cover up your little mishap. I've done that too, more times than I'd like to admit! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
The sign is perfect and it really looks so good there. I have two dogs that are so afraid of the fireworks - they shiver and shake and are so afraid. We do not get thunder storms or lightening here in So CA. So I know what you go through with your dog. The sign goes so well with your vignette.

ReplyDeleteGreat sign! Is that a braided rug on your table?? I LOVE that idea! How totally charming and completely unexpected!
ReplyDeleteI love the sign above the window ... a great idea to fill the void there!!!...
ReplyDeleteCute sign! Isn't it funny how those cover-ups can force some creativity?! Been there!!
ReplyDeleteGreat solution!!!! It's also very pretty too!
ReplyDeleteHow perfect! If you'd found a lamp, you may have missed this sign. :-) That is so much easier than patching walls, and more fun, too. Great find!
ReplyDeleteI am love with that sign...it is perfect for that space....now, I have to follow the link and find a little something for myself too!
ReplyDeletethat is the cutest sign! I agree that it's a great way to cover up the unpainted area on your wall. Don't feel bad about not removing the curtain rod to paint. (I've done that too..............many times!)
ReplyDeleteOh I love it...great find!
