Operation: Sow's Ear to Silk Purse - It Begins

Hi everyone!

We are gearing up for some serious front yard changes this spring, so I thought I'd share where we are starting from today.

We built our very simple, yet classic, saltbox style house 17 years ago. We've painted our shutters several times, changed out light fixtures, we even added a little front yard patio. All have served us well, but we always thought the front of our house could be so much more.

I
We started this weekend by replacing our badly faded shutters with fresh, new ones. The shutters on the right were the same color as those on the left at one time. Talk about an overdue project!

Mr. Bluebird owns many ladders, but for whatever reason, his favorite is this rickety, wooden deathtrap. Only the good die young...

Nice and fresh. Love a classic hunter green and white exterior combo.

I've chosen these oversized onion lights and can't wait until they are installed!

And now, the biggest change! This is the drawing from our landscaper. We are so excited for the new driveway and front entry redo. I am most excited about my red brick steps - I've pined for those for many years! It will be fun landscaping this straw and adding our personal touches.

So, phase one of Operation: Sow's ear to Silk Purse has begun! I will share our progress with you all along the way. Please feel free to give ideas of how to accessorize this "new" space!

Thanks for stopping by,
Jane

  8. Oh, I love the changes you're making! The entry with the brick steps is my favorite part. I wish I could do the same to my front since the layout is very similar, but my yard is way smaller than yours.

  11. Hi Jane. I love your style of home. The shutters are gorgeous and it is amazing how certain colors fade over time. Don't you just hate when the "handyman" leans the ladder and steps on it. Mine does it all the time. I think I remember, when the ladder was new, a sticker stating that that was a no-no. Who knows better, right? It is going to be wonderful and I can't wait for the updates along the way..Have a wonderful, and safe, weekend..Judy
